Lately, Stella's favorite thing to do, and when I say favortite, I mean for 30 minutes to an hour at a time, is playing and talking about crayons. She found her bumbo seat in her closet, pushed it into the kitchen and spends a lot of time, either sitting in it, or placing crayons in it. For a while, everything was blue...our response would always be "well, that looks like blue, but that's green!", or "no, that's red"...you get the point! So, it became a game of hers to discuss the colors of crayons... she now knows...almost consistently, white, orange, green ,blue and black.
It excites me as a mom that my 1 1/2 year old even knows what color means, but what excites me more as a mom (and the teacher deep down :) is that her little brain is working so hard and remembering to associate crayons with the word color. It's like my mentor teacher always said "Always think of ways to get them thinking" So, even though I haven't obeyed the rule one of my professors taught me "never ask a child a question that you already know the answer to", I'm trying my best to always keep her thinking :)
